How to find out if you are being cheated on

Guides

Published October 9, 2026.

To find out whether you are being cheated on, start by clarifying the agreement you believe was broken and the information behind your concern. A direct conversation and reliable, specific information are more useful than a generic list of signs. You may still have to make a decision with some uncertainty.

Define what cheating means in your relationship

Exclusivity, dating-app use, sexual contact, and intimate messaging should be discussed rather than assumed to mean the same thing to both of you. Describe the boundary you believe you agreed to. Distinguish a disagreement about that boundary from knowingly concealing a violation.

Separate observation, interpretation, and missing information

For each concern, record what you saw or were told, what you think it means, and what remains unknown. If a friend reports something, ask what they actually witnessed. If a public profile appears, open the source and consider identity, age of the information, and possible impersonation.

Ask a question that can be answered

Bring up the specific concern at a time when you can both talk. “I found this page and want to understand whether it is yours” is clearer than a surprise accusation. Avoid fake accounts, covert device access, or contacting strangers to pressure them into supplying evidence.

Decide what you need next

You can ask for clarification, set a boundary, take time apart, or seek support. Proof of an affair is not a prerequisite for deciding a relationship is not working for you. CheatAlert can help with public profile leads when that is the question; it cannot establish fidelity or reveal private messages.

Can a search tool prove someone is faithful?

No. An empty public search does not cover every account or private interaction. A possible match also needs review and cannot by itself establish that someone cheated.

Explore public profile search

If an online profile is part of your concern, a public lookup can provide leads to review. It cannot decide whether your partner is cheating or resolve relationship doubt.
